How it Works
vGRID Vault

What is vGRID Vault?

vGRID Vault is secure and efficient way for vGRID users to request and obtain CCTV footage from a member of the public without the need for a physical visit.

Vault is effectively a USB replacement; it allows users to send a request to an email address asking for any CCTV footage they may have. The witness can then upload the footage to the Vault by way of a secure link that they receive in the initial email, this saves USB sticks, travel time and navigating unfamiliar CCTV systems. The result is that the footage that you want arrives straight to you, accompanied by a detailed report to preserve chain of evidence.

Vault supports all file types and uploads can be from PCs or Smartphones and there is no limit to the number of uploads or files uploaded. There is currently a maximum per-file size of 4GB. Members of the public uploading footage do not need to be vGRID users to upload evidence.

Vault also preserves the chain of evidence by ‘hashing’ and auditing the CCTV file transfer. The hashed ID can be used to validate that the evidence is the same files originally uploaded by the member of the public and that they have not been altered. Vault cases can be restricted to an individual user, a group of users or shared within your organsiation.

Note: Vault is not intended as a replacement for secure evidence storage. CCTV footage and images obtained through Vault should be stored appropriately.

How to use Vault - Summary

Determine Needs

You may be talking with a member of the public and have jointly identified that they may have CCTV footage, images or other files that could be useful in support of an investigation.

Gather Information

You discuss and agree the specifics of the CCTV footage that you require from the member of the public and ask for their details – name and email address so that you can send them a vGRID Vault request.

Create vGRID Vault Request

You create your request and enter relevant information. You can select the Vault group and who can see the uploaded evidence.

Vault Request Received

Member of the public receives your Vault request via email and this includes an ‘Open Vault’ button.

Vault Request Opened

Member of the public clicks the Open Vault button and is taken through instructions on how to upload their evidential files to you. There is per-file size limit of 4GB (with an unlimited number of files) and the transfer is very fast. It is also secure and ‘hashed’ to ensure that the upload is unable to be tampered with.
