About SaferCities

SaferCities want safe and vibrant cities for everyone.

We are the New Zealand software company responsible for the vGRID SaferCity platform that enhances community collaboration with law enforcement.

Development began in 2015 alongside New Zealand Police and now involves Police and Public Safety agencies across the globe.

In addition to our safer city software we are recognised experts by Police and Councils in providing independent design consultancy of large-scale city wide Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) networks required for public safety, crime reduction and transportation management.

Our consultancy also includes assisting procurement teams and project deployment teams but we remain independent by not selling CCTV cameras or recording systems.

Our Purpose is to enable safety by connecting the world.

Collaboration and Software Development

In early 2015 founder Scott Bain and CTO Chris Wiggins pioneered the beginnings of the vGRID SaferCity Platform whilst collaborating closely with NZ Police, communities and CCTV vendors.

The principles of the platform, and the ecosystem that surrounds it, acknowledges the reality of many highly capable, but disparate, CCTV camera networks in cities, towns and communities.

SaferCities collaborate with Police, Community and the CCTV industry to continually evolve an interoperable, privacy compliant, cyber secure, video agnostic convergence platform that is easy to use for Police and any first responder focused on public safety.

The result is the vGRID SaferCity platform, offering comprehensive access to visual information from live public-facing CCTV feeds, video display screens from command and control centres and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) data from the huge range of camera vendors.

In addition to the technology side, our role includes being trusted advisors to Police and Councils on sharing agreements, privacy policies and safer city initiatives.

Public Safety Ecosystem

Our collaborative ecosystem approach is the only way SaferCities believe anyone can connect a city together given the reality that multiple CCTV networks and vendors will always exist.

SaferCities therefore work closely with Police, Public Safety, communities, CCTV vendors and integrators who share similar values and philosophy around safer city strategy by collaboration.

We are proud our our ongoing work with all the leading CCTV vendors so that vGRID SaferCity can be a truly CCTV vendor agnostic visual information platform for Police and Public Safety.

Privacy and Compliance Management

Within the vGRID SaferCity platform is functionality that ensures communities and agencies can share sensitive public facing visual information appropriately and adhere to strict compliance through the platforms role-based access controls and rigorous auditing and compliance options.

Presence, Evolution and Goals

Following significant success with vGRID SaferCity Platform we now provide software and consultancy services in New Zealand, Australia and United States. Our vGRID SaferCity platform evolves continually through regular incremental updates shared globally as we learn more from Police and Community about what is valued the most from us.

With Police budgets being slashed, our other point of difference is that we are not focused on the money but rather in how we can all best collaborate together to reduce crime.

Our Mission is a future where cities are safe and we believe we have the best and most advanced software convergence vGRID SaferCity platform to help Police & Community achieve these goals.

We want to be known as the most trusted partner in global safety and our values match.
