vGRID Gateway

vGRID Gateway (and Screen Share Pro)

The vGRID Gateway is a Linux-based device which runs all of the related software to connect your CCTV and ANPR assets into your vGRID instance. This device needs to communicate out to the vGRID cloud, and also to your CCTV VMS and ANPR assets.

For further security information, please see the Gateway Security section.

Connection options

VMS / ANPR cameras are on the same network as the internet

If your VMS and ANPR cameras are on the same network as the internet, then you can connect the vGRID Gateway directly to your network switch. The vGRID Gateway will then be able to communicate with your VMS and ANPR cameras, and to the vGRID cloud.

VMS / ANPR cameras are on a different network to the internet

If your VMS and ANPR cameras are on a different network to the internet, then you will need to connect the vGRID Gateway to both networks. The vGRID gateway’s primary network interface needs to connect to your network with internet access, and secondary interface (device dependent, either on-board or via a USB ethernet adaptor) connects to your VMS and ANPR network. If your VMS / ANPR network has its own internal routing, these routes will need to be configured on the vGRID gateway accordingly.

vGRID Gateway in a DMZ

SaferCities always advocate for tight security restrictions (where possible), and so we recommend that the vGRID Gateway is placed in a DMZ. Depending on your network configuration, this will require firewall rules and potentially a new subnet allocated for the vGRID Gateway. Please see the required ports outlined below for more information.

vGRID Screen Share Pro

When the vGRID Gateway is acting solely as a Screen Share Pro device, the only network connections required are to the vGRID Cloud (as outlined below).
